You may notice that I rough scrape a little bit of the bark off around the center fold line. In my experience this slight thinning reduces cracking, and more importantly helps the cane press more closely up against the top of the shaper tip (rather than leaving a gap due to the cane curvature) resulting in a more accurate shape and better meeting of the sides of the tip in finished reeds.
