Oh, hi!
I am Joanna Porter
A native of Lenoir, North Carolina, I began my oboe studies at Appalachian State University. I hold Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Peabody Conservatory, and completed further study at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama- now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland- in Glasgow, Scotland. My teachers include Alicia Chapman (Asheville Symphony, NC Baroque Orchestra), Jane Marvine (Baltimore Symphony), and Stephane Rancourt (the Hallé Orchestra).
Now based in Davie County, west of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, I keep a busy freelance schedule in the Piedmont Triad area, appearing regularly with the Winston-Salem Symphony, Salisbury Symphony, Western Piedmont Symphony, and Fayetteville Symphony. I've performed as principal oboe of the Piedmont Wind Symphony since 2010.
